SUMMARY:Farming the Fens: Building resilient peatland systems
DESCRIPTION:Join this free webinar hosted by Fenland SOIL and Soil Association\, exploring new developments in sustainable farming systems on the Fens. \nLowland peat soils support some of the most productive farming systems in the country but are also responsible for a significant proportion of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. Farmers working these soils face growing pressure to reduce emissions and restore peat\, while maintaining profitable food production. \nThis session explores how landscape opportunity mapping can support climate‑positive decisions on lowland peat. It will share new evidence from paludiculture and raised‑water‑table trials\, including what these approaches mean for yields and carbon emissions. You’ll also hear insights from flux‑tower research showing how regenerative practices are influencing carbon dynamics across commercial peatland farms. Finally\, the session brings together practical experiences from growers trialling sub‑irrigation\, water‑table management and regenerative approaches at scale\, helping to shape a more sustainable and resilient future for farming on the Fens.

SUMMARY:Connecting International Agritourism
DESCRIPTION:This online meeting is another opportunity for Agritourism businesses in Scotland and Tasmania to connect to share valuable experiences and learning. \nWe will hear from Satellite Monitor Farmer\, Lindsay Robertson\, Long Islands Retreats. Lindsay and DJ Cameron who are custodians of their croft on South Uist with their young family. The agritourism business offers tours where visitors see Highland cattle\, Shetland ponies\, Saddleback pigs and Wild Red Deer in the beautiful island environment and specifically one of the largest machair areas in Europe. Authentic island meat boxes are sold through their Larder shop. Lindsay has worked with Travel Trade partners to build up the business through that route. \nWe have guest speakers\, Dan and Kim Crocker from Tasmania joining us. \nDan and Kim Crocker are the founders of Fork It Farm\, a boutique\, pasture-based pork and regenerative farm enterprise in Lebrina\, north-east Tasmania. After leaving careers in teaching and academia in Brisbane\, they relocated to Tasmania to build a values-driven farm business grounded in ethical animal welfare\, environmental care and true paddock-to-plate transparency. \nFork It Farm has become known for its premium Berkshire pork\, raised entirely on pasture and processed on-farm through their own curing\, smoking and value-added facility\, ensuring provenance\, quality and full control from paddock to product to plate. Alongside their award-winning farm produce\, Dan and Kim now offer immersive farm picnic experiences\, inviting visitors to slow down\, explore the landscape and enjoy handcrafted charcuterie overlooking their pastures.

SUMMARY:A Positive Future for Farmed Animals
DESCRIPTION:Positive welfare in farmed animals focuses on creating conditions that allow animals not only to avoid suffering but to flourish\, experiencing comfort\, interest\, and to express their natural behaviours. \nResearch has identified key resources and management practices on farm that provide livestock with these opportunities\, contained within Good Life Frameworks in the scientific literature. \nWe have been looking at a practical way to use this approach in everyday farming situations by identifying those key resources and management practices on farm that already provide farm animals the opportunities to enjoy a good quality of life\, and those that would need further support/consideration. By embracing positive welfare\, beef and sheep farmers can enhance animal wellbeing\, strengthen public trust\, and position themselves at the forefront of progressive\, sustainable agriculture. \nWebinar overview: \n\nWe’ll share an overview of the principles contained within the Good Life Opportunity frameworks for Beef Cattle and Sheep and discuss potential ways the approach can support and advance livestock quality of life.\nWe would like to invite farmers to contribute to the wider development of this approach through a self-assessment survey\, to reflect on current practices\, celebrate what’s working well\, and identify the relevant aspects for support and improvement within the industry.
