SUMMARY:Building soil monitoring into policy
DESCRIPTION:Part of the “Envisioning the future of soil health monitoring” series for AI 4 Soil Health (AI4SH)\, hosted by Soil Association. \nWhat data do policymakers need to protect soils\, and how will the new EU Soil Monitoring Law help deliver it? How can projects like AI4SH support member states in turning the Soil Monitoring Law into effective monitoring systems on the ground? What lessons can we learn from Denmark’s approach to integrating soil monitoring into its national environmental monitoring programme? \nSign up to this free webinar to join leading experts to discuss these topics and learn more about how soil science is being used to develop European policies. \nIn this webinar we are joined by AI 4 Soil Health project partners and policy experts to discuss the opportunities and challenges of implementing the new Soil Monitoring Law across Europe. The panel will explore how robust soil data can bridge the gap between science and policy\, what practical steps are needed to embed monitoring into national programmes\, and how collaborative projects can accelerate progress towards healthier soils across the EU.

SUMMARY:Making the case for soil health monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Part of the “Envisioning the future of soil health monitoring” series for AI4SoilHealth\, hosted by Soil Association. \nWhy does soil health monitoring matter? What are some of the latest tools scientists are developing to make it easier? And what ambitions do policy makers have for monitoring frameworks of the future? Sign up to this free webinar to join leading experts to discuss these topics and learn more about the future of soil science. \nThe webinar will bring together the perspectives of farmers\, policy makers and scientists on soil monitoring practices\, and ground key concepts in the current EU farming and land use landscape. The panel will discuss the value of soil monitoring from three vital perspectives: on-the-ground practice\, scientific research\, and policy development.

SUMMARY:Roots of Resilience – Enhancing Biodiversity through Agroecology
DESCRIPTION:This is the second in a series of four virtual roadshows\, designed to take the findings of Agroecology-TRANSECT and disseminate broadly what they mean in practice. \nAgroecology-TRANSECT is a Horizon Europe project exploring how nature-friendly farming is evolving across 11 countries in Europe and beyond\, and how these practices can accelerate positive change for people\, animals and the environment. \nRoots of Resilience – Enhancing Biodiversity through Agroecology presents findings from partners and innovation hubs across Europe through presentations and visual storytelling\, highlighting how biodiversity underpins resilient agroecological systems. \n\nHow has EU Agriculture Policy affected biodiversity so far?\nWhat does the research tell us about the impact of agroecological farming practices on biodiversity?\nThe Multi Criteria Analysis tool (MCA) – particularly looking at how it can analyse Biodiversity Indicators\nUpdates from Innovation Hubs\n\n

SUMMARY:Tayside Adaptation Partnership Vision and Priorities Event: Local Business
DESCRIPTION:The climate in Tayside is changing\, and the region is experiencing warmer\, wetter weather\, increased storminess\, and higher sea levels\, all of which is set to continue even if we achieved net zero tomorrow. We need to adapt to these changes to allow us to become more resilient and ensure Tayside can continue to flourish. \nAdaptation Scotland are supporting partners within Tayside to develop a new\, Regional Adaptation Partnership to address climate risks. \nAt this early stage\, we want to involve people and organisations across the region in defining a shared vision and priorities for the new partnership. Four sector specific events have been designed to provide opportunities for different groups to have a say in what the partnership could be\, what it could do and how it could work. \nAimed at businesses\, land managers and the agricultural sector in Tayside\, this workshop will explore how a regional adaptation partnership can advance adaptation in Tayside\, using these three key questions: \n1. How would you describe current work on adaptation in Tayside? What works well and what are the challenges? \n2. What do you hope to see in Tayside in 2050\, as the result of good adaptation action? \n3.How can the regional partnership help move Tayside from the current situation to the future we want to see in 2050? \nEach event will run from 12:30pm – 3pm with registration and a free lunch available from 12:15pm. Space is limited\, so we ask you to register no more than 2 people per organisation or group.

SUMMARY:Summer School 2024: Innovation in Town and City Climate Action
DESCRIPTION:The Glasgow Climate Pact\, signed at COP26\, was a step forward in our effort to tackle climate change. But there are serious concerns that it is not enough. While the Glasgow Climate Pact gives guidelines on how we tackle climate change\, it’s not legally binding. \nA clear sign that we are not moving fast enough is that COP26 aimed to ‘keep 1.5ᵒC alive’\, to minimise a rise in global temperatures. In 2023\, just two years later\, 1.5ᵒC has already been breached. More needs to be done. \nSlow progress is not a new problem. The friction between countries on a global stage has always been a barrier to progress. That’s why there is a growing consensus that climate action has to be driven by towns and cities at a local level. The place management industry has every incentive to lead on this. \nNot only are our towns and cities exposed to extreme weather events which are taking a toll on the business community in areas hit by repeated storms and flooding\, but there are also a number of co-benefits to climate action which can bring economic growth. Furthermore\, as outlined in our ground breaking virtual event ‘Divided We Fall’ there needs to be the type of coordinated approach that necessitates the involvement of place management. \nFollowing the legacy of COP26\, Summer School 2024 will take place in Glasgow with a range of keynote sessions\, workshops\, study tours and panel debates. We will explore a number of issues crucial to local climate action including recovering from extreme weather\, business engagement on sustainability\, the 15 minute city\, and the impact of net zero on regeneration. We will use an amended format to deliver more interactive workshops and panel debate to allow members to share best practice.
