SUMMARY:Perthshire Talks Responsible Tourism: exploring different climate action themes
DESCRIPTION:Energy\, transport\, and waste comprise a substantial amount of global greenhouse gas emissions and will usually make up a considerable part of your footprint. Reducing these will be an essential step on your road to net zero. \nHowever\, measurement and reduction are only one part of the picture. Developing climate action around communicating\, influencing your customers or suppliers\, and adapting to climate change are equally as crucial on the road to net zero. \nIn this webinar\, we will explain the different climate action themes in our guide and what they mean for you and your business.

SUMMARY:Innovative Horizons: Exploring Floating Offshore Substations\, CCS Shipping\, Hydrogen\, and Flow Assurance
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by member company Crondall Energy and supported by Forth & Tay Offshore. \nWe are delighted to be bringing you an opportunity to attend focused technical topics that are crucial to delivering the UK’s net zero ambitions. \nThis session will look at; Developing practical solutions for floating offshore wind substations\, Opportunities and considerations for CO2 shipping\, maximising the efficiency of grid scale hydrogen production\, & CCS Transport and Storage Operational Challenges. \nYou can choose to attend two sessions out of the four available topics. More information on each topic: \n\nDeveloping practical solutions for floating offshore wind (FOW)\n\nAs developers venture further offshore and into deeper waters to harness wind power\, practical solutions are required for the transfer of power to shore. Floating and subsea substations are receiving a growing interest for floating offshore wind developments\, as they potentially provide a cost-competitive alternative to traditional fixed platforms. This presentation will provide an overview of the latest challenges and limitations associated with the transmission of power to shore. The different types of substations\, their key design features\, and their applicability will be presented. The current status of technology development will be outlined along with a discussion of the pros and cons of each approach. \n\nOpportunities and considerations for CO2 shipping\n\nCO2 shipping is being considered for an increasing proportion of CCS projects\, as a means of increasing sequestered volumes and therefore revenue. There are a multitude of ship designs and offloading concepts being considered with different offloading locations\, and pressure regimes. This presentation will provide an overview of the offloading options being considered and the opportunities of different pressure regimes \n\nMaximising the efficiency of grid scale hydrogen production\n\nCrondall Energy have recently completed a concept study focusing on developing the optimum grid scale hydrogen production facility\, considering the full envelop from electrical generation to by products and H2 production. This presentation will provide a holistic overview of the technical risks and opportunities for large scale hydrogen production directly from renewable sources. Presenting the key design decisions and considerations to maximise the efficiency of the complete H2 production system\, not just the electrolyser. \n\nCCS Transport and Storage Operational Challenges\n\nWe will discuss the main issues to be addressed in CCUS for pipeline CO2 transportation and operability considerations. Practical experience in developing associated solutions will also be presented. \nAgenda\n\n10:00 – 10:10 – Introduction and move to meeting rooms\n10:10 – 10:30 – Session 1\n10:30 – 10:35 – Transfer between rooms\n10:35 – 10:55 – Session 2\n10:55 – 11:00 – close out

SUMMARY:Summer School 2024: Innovation in Town and City Climate Action
DESCRIPTION:The Glasgow Climate Pact\, signed at COP26\, was a step forward in our effort to tackle climate change. But there are serious concerns that it is not enough. While the Glasgow Climate Pact gives guidelines on how we tackle climate change\, it’s not legally binding. \nA clear sign that we are not moving fast enough is that COP26 aimed to ‘keep 1.5ᵒC alive’\, to minimise a rise in global temperatures. In 2023\, just two years later\, 1.5ᵒC has already been breached. More needs to be done. \nSlow progress is not a new problem. The friction between countries on a global stage has always been a barrier to progress. That’s why there is a growing consensus that climate action has to be driven by towns and cities at a local level. The place management industry has every incentive to lead on this. \nNot only are our towns and cities exposed to extreme weather events which are taking a toll on the business community in areas hit by repeated storms and flooding\, but there are also a number of co-benefits to climate action which can bring economic growth. Furthermore\, as outlined in our ground breaking virtual event ‘Divided We Fall’ there needs to be the type of coordinated approach that necessitates the involvement of place management. \nFollowing the legacy of COP26\, Summer School 2024 will take place in Glasgow with a range of keynote sessions\, workshops\, study tours and panel debates. We will explore a number of issues crucial to local climate action including recovering from extreme weather\, business engagement on sustainability\, the 15 minute city\, and the impact of net zero on regeneration. We will use an amended format to deliver more interactive workshops and panel debate to allow members to share best practice.

SUMMARY:Statutory Guidance Engagement Workshop: Sustainable Procurement and the CE
DESCRIPTION:Why are these Statutory Guidance stakeholder engagement workshops taking place? \nSSN is working with the Scottish Government to support the development of new Statutory Guidance on Public Bodies’ Climate Change Duties. The guidance is being co-developed this year with contributions from across the Scottish public sector. Formal public consultation will take place in spring/summer 2024. \nBetween September 2023 and February 2024\, SSN and the Scottish Government will run a series of stakeholder engagement workshops\, which will explore a number of prioritised topics that are under development. \nWhat is the purpose of this workshop? \nThis workshop will aim to gather feedback from Scottish public sector professionals on the Scottish Government’s draft guidance chapter on ‘Sustainable Procurement and the Circular Economy’. The chapter will touch on topics such as; \n\nConsidering climate in procurement activity\nThe Sustainable Procurement Duty\nGuidance on asking for climate commitments at the selection stage of procurements\nSupplier and contract management\nReporting emissions from procured goods and services\nCircular economy\n\nWho is this workshop for? \nThis workshop is designed specifically for public sector professionals within the Sustainable Scotland Network membership who a) work closely with the subject matter of the workshop; b) will be able to identify gaps or alternative approaches to the proposed content; and c) can advise on suitable levels of technical detail and structure for the guidance. \nLead SSN members should coordinate the gathering of views from colleagues\, or encourage topic experts to attend. \nIt is essential that attendees come well-prepared and have thoroughly read the draft Statutory Guidance material prior to the workshop. This will enable everyone to get the most out of the session\, while also keeping it brief.
