SUMMARY:Building a Hydrogen Sector: the Scottish Supply Chain Event
DESCRIPTION:This event will help explore and highlight Scotland’s range of capabilities in hydrogen production and emerging opportunities in the sector. \nThe Scottish Government\, in partnership with Transport Scotland\, Scottish Enterprise\, Highlands and Islands Enterprise\, and South of Scotland Enterprise\, invite you to preregister for Building a Hydrogen Sector: The Scottish Supply Chain Event. \nScotland is well positioned to be a leading hydrogen nation in Europe\, with the potential to produce enough hydrogen for our own domestic use and for export. To support this transition\, the Scottish Government has set an ambition of 5 gigawatts (GW) of hydrogen production by 2030 and 25 GW by 2045. \nScotland’s developing hydrogen economy will require a strong domestic supply chain across the whole hydrogen value chain and strong international engagement. \nMany companies are already engaged or actively interested in hydrogen. This event will help explore and highlight Scotland’s range of capabilities in hydrogen production and emerging opportunities in the sector. \nThis large-scale event will be opened by a key note address from Michael Matheson\, Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero\, Energy and Transport\, and will bring together stakeholders from across the energy supply chain. \nFeatured at the conference will be guest speakers from across industry and government as well as practical panels\, networking and workshop sessions on a range of supply chain opportunities.

SUMMARY:Communicating Sustainability 2022
DESCRIPTION:This event will be bringing together community groups\, educationalists\, policy-makers\, researchers\, professionals and all those with an interest in issues of sustainability to discuss these and other questions and to develop ways of working together going forward. \nIt does not promote or favour any single idea of sustainability – whether it is social\, economic\, cultural or environmental – but provides a space for different groups to understand and respect alternative positions\, to break down barriers and to promote collaboration across sectors. \nCommunicating Sustainability will take place across three international hubs: the University of Glasgow\, Scotland; Goucher College in Baltimore\, United States; and the Universidade Federal de Sergipe\, Brazil. \nIt will offer participants the opportunity not only to discuss issues of sustainability with others from within their own sphere of activity\, but also to take part in conversations with community groups\, educationalists\, policy-makers\, researchers and professionals from other sectors. Challenge others and be challenged yourself\, and develop an action plan that ensures the event is the beginning of a bigger discussion and greater collaboration. \nThe conference is open to anyone with an interest in issues of sustainability\, whether they want to make a short presentation on their own experiences\, practices and problems or simply to listen to presentations and take part in discussions from the floor and in the social spaces. \nIt will offer a mixture of on-site and virtual events at each hub and virtual events between hubs.

SUMMARY:Living Circular – minimising the impact of disposal
DESCRIPTION:There are two complementary consultations: proposals for a Circular Economy Bill and a Route Map to 2025 and beyond.  \n\n\nBoth consultations outline key activities to move Scotland towards a more circular economy.  The Circular Economy Bill will establish the legislative framework to support Scotland’s transition to a zero waste and circular economy\, significantly increase reuse and recycling rates\, and modernise and improve waste and recycling services.  The Route Map is specifically aimed at maximising progress towards our waste and recycling targets. \n\nBy modernising waste and recycling services across Scotland\, we will make it easy for people to do the right thing for the planet. In this fourth session of the series\, we will be specifically talking about minimising the impact of disposal\, focusing on this particular package of the Route Map. \n\nJoining us on the panel:\n\n\n\nJane Beasley – Policy Lead\, Route Map\, Zero Waste Scotland\nRay Georgeson – Head of Resource Management\, Waste and Recycling\, Zero Waste Scotland\nOther guest speakers will be announced in due course.

SUMMARY:Two Part Accredited Climate Emergency Training
DESCRIPTION:Our two-part programme provides you with a certificate in carbon literacy\, giving you the knowledge and skills you’ll need to identify where you can make changes; changes to help your business be more cost-efficient and better prepared to meet both customer expectations and new regulations\, in a net-zero Scotland. \nPlease Note: Both sessions plus self-study must be completed to be eligible for certification\, so please ensure you can commit to both dates – 2nd and 9th August; 10:00 – 12:30. \nAbout the course \nThis free online training is certified by The Carbon Literacy Project and delivered by their official partner in Scotland\, Keep Scotland Beautiful. \nYou will learn about the challenges of the climate emergency and be provided with effective tools to take back into your organisation\, to help create focus on sustainability and decarbonisation. \nWhat is carbon literacy and why is it important to me? \nCarbon Literacy is the knowledge and capacity required to create a positive shift in how mankind lives\, works and behaves in response to climate change. The Carbon Literacy Project’s definition of it is: \n‘An awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions\, on an individual\, community and organisational basis.’ \nIt’s important because a shift is already happening amongst consumers and businesses\, as they look for reassurance from retailers and suppliers that efforts are being made towards sustainability and minimising carbon emissions. Not only will it be important for organisations to be able to provide that reassurance to customers but soon\, regulations will be introduced that will need to be met legally. \nBeing carbon literate means you will be better equipped to help your organisation identify where changes might be required\, what changes can realistically be made\, and find opportunities to make your organisation more resilient and responsive to the impacts of climate change. With a plan in place\, ready to be implemented\, your organisation can continue to attract sales from customers in a world where expectations will be high. \nWhat will I get out of the course? \nAfter around 8 hours of learning (see course structure below)\, you will be eligible for an individual Certrificate in Carbon Literacy\, independently verified by The Carbon Literacy Project. \nYou will find the training empowers you to take practical action on climate change and develop skills and experience you can apply in the workplace\, no matter what your role or what level of an organisation you work at.  If you and your organisation are in the early stages of considering your climate change impacts and planning for net-zero\, this training provides a fantastic opportunity to get you started. \nCourse structure \nThe training uses a mix of delivery methods over two weeks\, including live\, interactive webinars and self-study. The total time commitment for the course is 7-8 hours of learning\, structured as follows: \nSession One – 2.5hr online workshopAn introduction to climate change\nClimate impacts and adaptation\nSession Two – 2.5hr online workshopReducing emissions\nClimate action and communication\nSelf-study material between the sessions \nBy the end of the course\, you will: \nUnderstand the basic science and impacts of climate change\nKnow what’s being done locally\, nationally and internationally\nBe able to identify impacts\, risks and opportunities for Scotland\nBe able to reflect on your organisation/sector’s role and what you can do

SUMMARY:Can Tourism Help Tayside #RaceToZero?
DESCRIPTION:Tourism is evolving fast. COVID-19\, the climate and biodiversity crises and new major geopolitical instability is changing how people travel\, where to and why; even whether they can travel at all. \nIn this state of global ‘permacrisis’\, new questions are being asked about tourism and old assumptions are being challenged – Is travel a right or a privilege? Should growth in tourism continue to be encouraged and who gets to decide? How can destinations continue to develop in the light of this new operating environment and who pays?
