How Invest in Angus helped Angus Small Repairs to grow

It’s great to see a business with a big heart succeed, and Angus Small Repairs is a fantastic example of that. Angus Small Repairs are a new company in Angus, with a team of skilled, trustworthy and reliable Small Repairs Officers helping elderly and disabled residents with essential home repairs like joinery, electrical work and plumbing. They are a not-for-profit organisation, meaning any charges go straight back into providing their amazing services.

Angus Council’s SME Start & Grow Grant provided the initial investment they needed to hire their very first employee, Kath, for a three-month period. This person was crucial for handling all the administrative tasks, from dealing with new clients and small repairs referrals to organising and booking out jobs.

Helen Carlin, the founder of Angus Small Repairs, was delighted with the grant support. She said: “The process was excellent, it was seamless, easy and a very quick turnaround. The financial support was a lifesaver for us and came at a time when we most needed it.

The impact our Administration Assistant has had on the business is immeasurable. Without her expertise, knowledge and excellent organisational skills, we could never have grown and evolved in the way we have. This initial 3-month funding allowed me to source other funding to extend the contract and happy to confirm Kath is now a permanent employee.

This funding truly made a difference and allowed Helen to step away from the day-to-day administration and focus on the bigger picture – things like strategic and financial planning and establishing a new Board of Directors. Angus Small Repairs has gone from strength to strength very quickly and had it not been for this funding, the organisation would have struggled greatly with limited capacity to grow.

Customer Testimonials:

“Just a big thank you for arranging my repairs. First class job and much appreciated. Makes such a difference knowing there are tradesmen willing to come out for small jobs like this.”

“Young man arrived and made an old lady very happy – thank you and him very much. She is so pleased you have no idea, she’s been waiting so long to get someone, and she has been ill, so it cheered her up.”

“I slept in a bed for the first time in a year and I am just so grateful! When turning the mattress, I took a trip and fell on the bed base and broke it. Tried to fix it and when not successful tried to find someone to repair it but couldn’t get anyone.”

“May I thank you and your organisation for the service you provide and commend the gentleman who visited us and sorted our light. Good service is often hard to find, however your organisation and staff have provided it.”
