How Invest in Angus helped Upper Dysart Larder bring their farm to your table

Ever wondered where your food really comes from? At Upper Dysart Larder, they’re all about bringing you the freshest, most delicious local produce straight from the farm. It’s more than just a farm shop; it’s an experience!

Imagine stepping into a world where everything you see is locally grown and produced. From vibrant seasonal fruits and veggies to locally butchered meats and unique artisan products (ever tried flavoured mash? You’re in for a treat!), Upper Dysart Larder is a true champion of the “farm-to-table” philosophy. They’re passionate about supporting local producers and creating a hub for amazing food.

But it’s not just about what’s on your plate. Upper Dysart Larder also offers incredible farm experiences for both kids and adults. You can explore the fields, meet some friendly farm animals, and enjoy fun, educational play. Their goal is to promote sustainable agriculture and really get the community involved.

Upper Dysart Larder has big dreams of becoming a shining example of a sustainable agribusiness in the Angus region. To help them achieve this, they applied for Angus Council’s SME Start & Grow Grant scheme to expand their offerings with a hot food service, launch an online sales platform, and make their visitor experience even better.

With their funding secured, Upper Dysart have been busy trialling new hot food recipes, and now you can enjoy a core menu of delicious dishes, plus exciting weekly specials. They even bought a new terminal, making it super easy for staff to take orders and for you to order and pay yourself.

But the improvements don’t stop there. Thanks to the funding, Upper Dysart Larder was able to purchase sheep hurdles and equipment to set up an indoor lambing barn. They also introduced chickens to the farm by hatching eggs – perfect for those immersive Easter events! And a brand-new moveable heater means they can now host more events throughout the year, come rain or shine.

Jessica Squires from Upper Dysart Larder said: “This funding has made huge difference to our business. It’s allowed us to do so much in such a short space of time which will hopefully greatly increase our revenue streams this year.

With these fantastic new resources, Upper Dysart Larder is now set to host even larger community events and build stronger collaborations with other local producers, solidifying their spot as the go-to place for top-quality, locally sourced products and fantastic family-friendly experiences in Angus.

The Angus Council SME Start & Grow Business Grants were funded by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). Grants were delivered by Angus Council’s Invest in Angus team, supported by Business Gateway.
