Skincare Firm a Hit at Music Awards

An Angus skincare business pampered musician’s going on stage at the Scottish Album of the Year Awards in Dundee on November 6.

KT Tunstall, Brooke Combe, Corto.Alto, Dillon Barrie and rEDOLENT all performed at the Caird Hall event and Kirriemuir’s Black Cat Soap House had its handmade organic soaps and natural skincare products in the artists’ dressing rooms.

Haluk and Nicola Gokalp, who founded the Black Cat Soap House more than two decades ago, said it was a coup to be part of one of one of Scotland’s most prestigious celebrations of music and creativity.

The inspiration behind their business was a desire to create skincare products that would not irritate their toddler son’s severe eczema.

Every product is now handcrafted in a converted outhouse at their Kirriemuir home.

The business uses only sustainable organic ingredients and minimal packaging.

Their small-batch skincare is vegan, cruelty-free and plastic-free.

Haluk said: “We were delighted to be contacted by the SAY Award team and invited to take part in the event.

“It is such an honour to have our organic soaps gifted to the performing artists.

“We are proud to represent Angus at this national celebration of Scottish creativity.”

He also hopes that the collaboration highlights how Scotland’s creative and sustainable industries can work hand in hand.

Haluk believes it is “proving luxury and responsibility can coexist beautifully.”

The company also supports tree planting and clean-water projects to ensure that kindness to people, and the planet remains at the heart of its business.

Last week’s event was the first in the 13-year history of the SAY Awards to take place outside the Central Belt.

It follows the announcement of a three-year Dundee partnership this summer.

St Andrews-raised star KT Tunstall was honoured with the 2025 Modern Scottish Classic Award for her 2004 debut album Eye to the Telescope.
