Jam Bothy Secures Large Contract Win with Scotmid
Angus entrepreneur Kim Cameron said she’ll be “chopping chillies for a week” in order to fulfil her largest order of jam following a supermarket contract win.
Jam Bothy will be available in Scotmid stores from March, after Kim’s company signed its biggest deal to date with the convenience store chain.
Kim is the co-founder of Jam Bothy, part of the Bothy Trading Group which also includes Gin Bothy, whose drinks once featured in an Oscars goody bag. Building the business over the last 11 years has seen her team grow to 22 staff.
Jam Bothy’s Scottish chilli jam beat off competition from 50 other firms competing in Scotmid’s Scottish Favourites challenge.
The award will see it stock the chilli jam across 150 stores in Scotland and England.
And judges liked it so much, they agreed to snap up their strawberry conserve when soft fruit season rolls around in the summer.
Because of Jam Bothy’s small batch production methods, Kim says all the chilli being prepared for the nearly 1,000 jam jars will need to be chopped by hand.
“We are going into 153 stores across Scotland and England,” she said.
“And every store has ordered one case, so that 153 cases of jam ready to go by March in time for the first order, with each case holding six jars.
“So we’ll be chopping chillies all week.
“We have a fabulous jam production manager and team who will be moving to production in our Glamis and Forfar facilities.
“This is such a good opportunity for the business.
“We don’t know exactly how much jam we will be producing yet and the strawberry jam will be hitting the shelves in May.
“And me and the team will be trying to get to as many stores as we can, so we can find out just how people enjoy their jam.”
Scotmid’s Steven Addison added: “Local sourcing is incredibly significant to us, and we are privileged to collaborate with an exceptional variety of suppliers worldwide. We are delighted to be working with Jam Bothy. Scotland genuinely boasts some of the finest food and drink globally, and the quality of local products continues to improve each year.”
The chilli jam will be available in stores from the end of March, while the strawberry jam will be released in May.
