Inside New Carnoustie Wellness Club Run by Monifieth Mums

A pair of Monifieth mums have opened a new wellness club in Carnoustie.

Verity Milne and Raquel Smith, both 33, are behind YOU Wellness Club on the Angus town’s Dundee Street.

The new fitness venue will offer mat and reformer pilates, barre and yoga classes.

The pair hope to create a space where “everyone feels welcome”, from elderly men to pregnant women.

Verity said: “We are hoping to target quite a range of people.

“We are looking to be somewhere everyone feels welcome.

“We are in talks with male instructors, and we are trying to be really inclusive and diverse.

“We want it to be a community and a club.”

Raquel said: “Both of us are mums and we have got two children each.

“Fitness has always been quite important to both of us and has become more important as there have been life-changing events that have happened, where we have resorted to doing exercise and fitness to help get through these tough times.

“Verity is trained as a reformer pilates instructor, and I have trained as a fitness instructor and trained in Barre.

“The space used to be a betting shop, and it was empty for two years.

“It has taken a lot of work; Verity’s husband is a tradesman, and he has helped do everything for us, and mine has helped too.

“We are going to be teaching ourselves, but we have got five instructors coming on board with varied experience.

“We have Ailish doing yoga, she is really well established in the area, so we are excited to have her on board.

“We also have mat and reformer instructors, we have got a good variety of girls.”

The venue has been split into three separate spaces, with a large reception area and rooms for classes.

This includes an infrared room where they will hold hot pilates and yoga sessions.

Verity said: “We want to create that community in Carnoustie.

“It is a bustling high street, and I think that gets forgotten about – being so close to Broughty Ferry.

“We want to be somewhere everyone can come and make friends.”

Raquel added: “That’s where YOU come from, it’s your time, it’s your space, it’s your movement.”

YOU Wellness Club is now open, with bookings now available.
