“As Chief Executive of VisitScotland, Malcolm Roughead is at the helm of Scotland’s highly-successful tourism industry,” said Ian Ballantyne, Dean of Arbroath Guildry, which was founded in 1725. “Malcolm’s attendance at our annual lecture is a great honour and it is hoped that Malcolm will provide our audience with a valuable insight into tourism in Scotland and in our own area.

“Over the next few years, there’s going to be a high level of visitor interest and media attention on this corner of Scotland – we need to capitalise on this to ensure people not only visit once but return to Arbroath and the surrounding area again and again.

“2018 has great potential for our area, with a massive influx of visitors expected for The Open, as well as the high – and steady – numbers anticipated to visit the V&A Museum of Design, Dundee when it opens next year. In addition, in 2020, Arbroath will celebrate the 700^th anniversary of the Declaration of Arbroath, while nearby Brechin Cathedral will be 800 years old.

“The Guildry Lecture is normally restricted to our members but in recognition of the importance of tourism to the local economy, places are currently available for non-Guildry members,” continued Ian, who explained that tickets to the Arbroath Guildry Lecture, which will take place at 7.30pm at Hospitalfield House on September 25, are free.

“Arbroath Guildry is committed to supporting the town of Arbroath and I am confident Malcolm Roughead’s talk will be of great benefit to individuals, businesses and organisations in the local area with an interest in tourism or hospitality. However, as I suspect these places will be snapped up quickly, I highly recommend booking early.”
