Angus Agritech Business Becomes Scotland’s Top Start-Up
This year keeps getting better and better for the young Scottish agritech entrepreneur Tom Porter.
He’s celebrating yet again after his business AgriAudit, scooped double honours in the 2025 UK StartUp Awards.
It comes weeks after its equally impressive success at the Scottish Edge Awards.
Tom 24, developed the AgriAudit app on his dad’s farm at East Scryne, Carnoustie.
The venture was named best overall start-up and top digital start-up in the recent Scottish final of the 2025 UK StartUp Awards.
Judges recognised the firm for its success in easing the compliance burden on farming businesses, its commercial potential and founder Tom’s “deep, personal connection” to the issue he’s been trying to tackle. His app is designed to help make mandatory audits easier for farmers and growers.
By minimising time spent searching for, printing and uploading documents, AgriAudit eliminates duplication during the audit process.
Users can prepare for their audits from a central dashboard, and there is a tracker to monitor progress towards each one.
The idea took off after Tom was given responsibility for audits on the family farm.
Celebrating his latest awards, presented at a ceremony in Edinburgh, Tom said: “Our goal is to reduce the soaring administrative costs of compliance and give farmers their time back.
“These awards validate the need for straightforward, farmer-led tech. But they also send a clear message to assurance schemes; we’re offering a ready-made solution to many of the FAR (Farm Assurance review) recommendations.
“The industry wants joined-up thinking, and we’re ready to deliver it.”
Since its launch in 2024, AgriAudit has attracted national attention and significant support.
In February, it secured a £10,000 Regional Edge Award, followed by another £10,000 Young Edge Award in May.
These funds have accelerated development of both AgriAudit’s mobile version and full-featured web platform. Building on this momentum, Tom has started developing a powerful new “partner portal” – designed for agricultural consultants, co-operatives, multi-farm businesses and other organisations supporting farmers and growers.
The aim here is to simplify oversight, document management and communication between partners and farmers.
The new system is also expected to reduce upload requirements for farmers by allowing partners to submit documents directly on their behalf.
AgriAudit will now go on to represent Scotland at the UK StartUp Awards, held during Ideas Fest in Hertfordshire this September. As one of four regional winners, the company will stand alongside top start-ups from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
