Angus Businesses Give Menu Awards Judges Food For Thought
Four Angus Business have been shortlisted in the Courier Menu Food and Drink Awards 2022. The aim of the event, now in its fifth year, is to celebrate the outstanding talent across Tayside and north Fife.
The WeeCOOK Kitchen has been nominated in two categories; Producer of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year. In the Producer of the Year category, WeeCOOK will be up against Clootie McToot (Abernethy), Pitenweem Preserves and The Dundee Gin Company. In the Entrepreneur class Hayley Wilkes has been nominated alongside Lynsey Harley of Modern Standard Coffee (Glenrothes) and Praveen Kumar of Authentic Indian Cuisine (Perth).
In the Sustainability Award Framedrum Venison based between Forfar and Brechin and part of the Angus Tourism Co-operative, face opposition from Zest (St Andrews) and The Little Green Larder (Dundee).
The fourth nomination is that of Wee Bear Café, Kirriemuir, in the category for Independent Café of the Year. Here there are four shortlisted with the other three in contention being Zest (St Andrews), Fisher & Donaldson and Tickled Trout Café (Almondbank).
A total of five judges – The Courier’s head of food and drink Julia Bryce, Eniola Adeniyi, Martha Bryce, Jamie Scott and The Menu editor Brian Stormont attended to go through each entry in fine detail.
In all there are 13 categories and the winners of each will be announced at a five star gala dinner at The Old Course Hotel in St Andrews on 6 October.
