Angus Exporting Survey 2017 Shows Confidence in Growth
The survey commissioned by Business Angus gives a snapshot of the current exporting activity and aspirations of businesses across Angus.
Most Angus businesses who are currently exporting have been doing so for at least 10 years. Europe is the main market for those currently exporting and Europe and North America are the main target markets for businesses who are planning to begin trading internationally.
Most exporters generate sales through direct contact with customers. For the majority of those already exporting, the primary means of selling internationally is through direct contact such as telephone or email. Relatively few companies report using overseas agents or distributors or selling their product via the internet. Other routes to market cited were international trade shows or through an established client base.
Around 70% of current and aspiring exporters surveyed had received some form of internationalisation support, primarily from Scottish Development International or Scottish Enterprise. Feedback on the support received was generally positive, with most firms saying that they were satisfied or very satisfied with this.
