Angus Councillors have given the go ahead to a retail park next to the A92 on the outskirts of Arbroath, which is expected to generate hundreds of jobs and millions of pounds of investment for the town.

The park, which will be built on the former Presentation Products gateway site at the Elliot Industrial Estate on the southern approach to the town, will include Iceland, Costa, Burger King and B&M amongst others, with backers estimating it will create the equivalent of 237 full time jobs and boost the economy by £8.36 million.

Laura Conway, the businesswoman behind the development said “This is one of the most exciting projects to come to the town.  If this didn’t happen today then I don’t think we would ever have seen it again.”

Councillors heard several representations for and against the development, before agreeing the economic case was far too strong to refuse.  Council leader David Fairweather was of the opinion that the development could bring shoppers to Arbroath, including the town centre and High Street, who may be travelling to Dundee currently.

A list of conditions for the development will now be looked at by councillors on December 5.
