Businessman ‘Ups the Ante’ to Open His New Sales Firm

A new Angus business has been set up to sell used construction equipment.

Brookfields Plant and Equipment has taken premises at Broomfield Industrial Estate in Montrose.

The company is owned by local businessman Mark Stephen, who has run Brookfields Fabrication in the town for the last 15 years.

He has traded construction equipment privately in the past but has now decided to “up the ante” by taking premises for the business and hiring staff.

The business at Broomfield Industrial Estate opened its doors last weekend.

Mr Stephen said: “The business sells used equipment such as excavators, diggers, dampers, road rollers.

“Our target market is groundworkers and construction companies.

“We are focusing on equipment that is high quality with low hours of use.

“I’ve spent the last year travelling the country and building relationships with suppliers.  Most of the equipment has been sourced from the south of England.

“There’s always been strong demand for good construction equipment in Scotland.  There’s a lot of activity in the Montrose area at the moment.”

Two members of staff will work initially at Brookfields Plant and Equipment, with Mr Stephen hoping to create more jobs.

“The workshop will look over and service everything before it is sold,” he added.

“I’ve employed a couple of staff to do the general repairs and painting.

“We hope to build on that and take on a sales member.”

Through his other business, Equipco Investments, Mr Stephen sold Montrose Commercial Park to Montrose Port Authority in 2024.

Montrose Port Authority plans to erect warehouses and offices across the 26-acre site on Forties Road that was the former Petrofac fire safety training facility.
