How Invest in Angus helped Rewaco Trikes Scotland create a new kind of adventure

When you think of Rewaco Trikes Scotland Ltd, you probably picture trikes cruising down scenic roads – and you’d be right! Established in 2022, their main area of business is selling these fantastic machines. But the team at Rewaco has always understood the importance of trying new things to bring more visitors to our beautiful Angus area. They used to offer trike tours, but unfortunately, insurance issues meant those had to stop.

Meanwhile, Angus Council had identified a real need for more “Aires” in the county. If you’re not familiar, Aires are convenient overnight stopping places for campervans and motorhomes. More of these are needed not just to encourage this booming tourism sector, but also to help reduce unauthorised parking. It was a perfect opportunity for local businesses to step up!

So, in 2024, Rewaco Trikes decided to explore a new avenue. They commissioned a Feasibility Study to see if they could create Aires right there on their business premises. The research was really interesting, showing that campervan users are often domestic visitors, over 50, with no children – a demographic that closely matches their existing trike-purchasing customers! It just made sense.

Angus Council’s SME Smart & Grow Grant was crucial for them to act on the study’s recommendations and develop some unused land at the back of their property. Now, they offer five dedicated Aires pitches, helping the business diversify, utilise vacant land, increase footfall, and meet that vital need for more overnight spots in Angus.

Owners Gordon Carr & Ellie Whitehead were really positive about the experience. They said: “Business Gateway provided advice and were extremely helpful, and we received a quick response to our application from Angus Council which really helped with our cashflow. CAMpRA provided us with invaluable practical support and guided us through the planning requirements for our site.

To ensure their new venture is a huge success, Rewaco Trikes is busy getting the word out both locally and nationally. They’re leveraging their strong online presence, which boasts over 10,000 followers across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, and have updated all their signage and leaflets. You’ll find them registered on popular online sites like Park4Night and SearchforSites, and they are working closely with partners like the Angus Tourism Cooperative, Visit Angus, Visit Scotland, and the national CAMpRA Rally Group to promote their new Aires.

The site opened in March 2025 and has already played host to 27 customers, with many more predicted to follow as word spreads about this brilliant new facility for motorhomes coming to Angus.
