Success Story - Voigt Architects

It’s a busy and exciting time for Arbroath-based Voigt Architects. In December 2021, they moved into new premises within the Arbroath Harbour Visitor Centre. More recently, they have taken on a new apprentice employee to help them with an increasing workload.

About the business

Voigt Architects are an architecture business dedicated to providing energy-conscious solutions. They have been recognised with numerous local and national awards, including the Scottish Civic Trust ‘My Place’ award for their garden room at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital Community Garden.

Other notable projects include the conversion of a listed manor house and development of new flats at Seaview Manor in Monifieth, a new modern family home at Inchbare, and the stunning new visitor centre at Arbikie Distillery.

The business has many exciting projects in progress, including the conversion of Robertsons Bond from a bonded warehouse to flatted apartments in Dundee, the modernisation of a listed 250 year old church in Arbroath, and new energy-efficient homes at the Rosebank Development in Dundee.

New apprentice employee

Josh Burt, 17, joined Voigt Architects on a trial basis during summer 2022. After just a few weeks, the company decided to make his position permanent. Joining as Apprentice Architectural Technologist, Josh will help the business to service its current and future projects.

Josh has been enrolled in Dundee & Angus College and started his HND in Architectural Technology at the end of August 2022.

Future growth

The business expects to continue its recent strong growth and add to its current staff in the near future.

To be in this position so quickly is testament to all the hard work and endeavour put in by all my fellow Directors. We are hoping Josh is the first of our new employees and that we are in a position to possibly take on a Graduate Architect, possibly some time next year.”

New premises

Voigt Architects approached the Invest in Angus team at Angus Council in 2021 to help them find suitable office premises.

The Harbour Visitor Centre in Arbroath was chosen as it was the ideal location to help the business grow and increase its visibility. The building also offers the kind of inspiring space that aligns perfectly with their creative work.
