Third Sector Challenge Fund


Utilising funding from the UK Government UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), Third Sector Organisations who have experience and capacity to provide Skills and Employability support are invited to apply for a one-off grant to deliver short term projects aimed at supporting people living in Angus.

This fund will align with UKSPF People and Skills Priority, Intervention S31.

Fund Objectives and Interventions

Third Sector organisations in Angus are invited to submit project applications aligned with the UKSPF People and Skills Priority Objectives and Interventions, which are as follows:

Objectives:

  • Boosting core skills that support adults to progress in work
  • Upskill the working population by encouraging innovative approaches to reducing adult learning barriers
  • Reducing levels of economic inactivity through investment in bespoke intensive life and employment support
  • Improving employment outcomes for specific cohorts who face labour market barriers
  • Supporting people furthest from the labour market to overcome barriers to work
  • Supporting local areas to fund gaps in local skills provision to support people to progress in work
  • Supplement local adult skills provision, both qualifications based and Non qualification based

Intervention S31: Employment support for economically inactive people:

  • S31 is specifically for economically inactive people. UKSPF Output indicators definition: Economically inactive individuals are those not in work and not actively seeking work (unlike unemployed individuals who are actively seeking work).
  • Supporting economically inactive people to overcome barriers to work by providing cohesive, locally tailored support including access to basic skills.
  • Intensive and wraparound one-to-one support to move people closer towards mainstream provision and employment, supplemented by additional and/or specialist life and basic skills (digital, English, maths (via Multiply), and ESOL) support where there are local provision gaps.
  • This provision can include projects promoting the importance of work to help people to live healthier and more independent lives, alongside building future financial resilience and wellbeing.

Who can apply?

Angus Third Sector Organisations who have experience and capacity to provide Skills and Employability support to people living in Angus.

Funding Amount

We expect proposals to be in the region of £20,000.

What can the grant be used for?

This funding can be used to pay project specific revenue costs associated with this proposal, provision of Skills and Employability support to people living in Angus.

Examples of costs could include:

  • Salaries for new staff
  • Salaries for increasing existing staff hours
  • Running costs associated with funded activity
  • Promotional activity associated with funded activity
  • Support for learners associated with funded activity

Note that the following costs are not eligible:

  • General organisational administration and running costs
  • General management and administration fees

Outcomes (Deliverables)

Must include one or more from the list below:

  • Number of people supported to access basic skills
  • Number of people receiving support to gain employment
  • Effective working between keyworkers and additional services
  • Number of people in employment, including self-employment, following support
  • Number of people experiencing reduced structural barriers into employment and into skills provision

Application Period

The application form will be open from Monday 2 September to Monday 30 September 2024.

Funding allocations to successful projects will be confirmed by end October 2024.

Funding is for short-term projects that must be completed by 31 March 2025.

Quarterly summary reports and end of project performance report and financial summary must be submitted to demonstrate how the grant has been used, what has been delivered and what impact this has had.

Funded organisations must retain copies of all financial records related to project expenditure and ensure that relevant qualitative and quantitative data is gathered during the project delivery period, this will be required for supporting evidence to accompany the end of project report.
