Glen Clova Estate Expands with Striking New Event Barn
A purpose-built, 400-square-metre venue designed to host weddings, corporate functions and community events marks the latest expansion of Glen Clova Estate in the Angus Glens.
Developed in response to growing demand for a versatile event space in the region, the new facility strengthens the estate’s existing 4-star hotel and hospitality offering, reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainable, rural development within the Cairngorms National Park.
With major investment from the Glen Clova Estate, construction began in January 2025, using locally sourced materials and contracting skilled tradespeople from the surrounding area. The building features a 5.6-metre-high vaulted ceiling, over 1,000 hand-installed timber planks and 500 repurposed scaffolding boards, demonstrating a carefully crafted design and a commitment to sustainable construction.
The Barn accommodates up to 170 guests, increasing capacity by 70. With adaptable space for a wide range of functions, it’s one of few venues in the region that can comfortably host large-scale events and provide on-site accommodation, all in one place.
In line with Glen Clova Estate’s long-standing sustainability strategy, The Barn is powered by an on-site hydroelectric system drawing from Loch Brandy, infrastructure that has been in place on the estate since 2012.
Lesley McArthur, Partner at Glen Clova Estate, said: “We’ve seen a steady increase in enquiries for larger weddings and corporate events, and it became clear there was a need for a more flexible space that still reflects the quality and character Glen Clova Hotel and the Estate is known for. The Barn is a considered step forward. It allows us to grow in a way that feels right, continuing our focus on sustainability, local impact and a warm, personal service. With a dedicated team of 20, we’re proud to offer a venue that contributes meaningfully to the Angus Glens and supports rural enterprise.”
EQ Accountants, long-standing trusted advisers to Glen Clova, provided crucial financial oversight throughout the project, ensuring the expansion aligned with both business goals and family values.
Iain Gordon, Partner at EQ Accountants, said: “Glen Clova Estate are valued clients of EQ who share our commitment to thoughtful, sustainable growth. Long term strategic decision-making is essential for continued development and the investment in The Barn is a testament to the family’s commitment and vision for the success of the business and its impact on the region. It significantly enhances the local hospitality offering, creating capacity for larger events, attracting new visitors to the Angus Glens and helping to drive year-round tourism. It’s a valuable addition that will bring lasting benefit to the local economy.”
Located approximately 30 minutes from Forfar, Glen Clova is recognised for its scenic and ecological significance. The estate comprises a country hotel originally built in 1850, luxury self-catering lodges, and multiple on-site hospitality venues. Guests also have access to a wide range of outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, cycling, golf, and clay pigeon shooting.
Lesley added: “We’re preparing to welcome guests to The Barn at our upcoming Corporate Open Day on Thursday 12 June to showcase just how stunning and adaptable the space is. It’ll offer businesses and event organisers an opportunity to explore what’s possible here, from strategy days and product launches to full-scale celebrations, all set in a location that feels a world away.”
