Gordon’s Restaurant Presented with Hotel ‘Oscar’
Three hotels in Angus and Perthshire have taken top gongs at the latest Good Hotel Guide awards ceremony.
Gordon’s Restaurant in Inverkeilor, Meikleour Arms and the Coorie Inn at Muthill have all been recognised as winners of the guide’s 2026 Cesar Awards.
Gordon’s was named best restaurant with rooms, Meiklour Arms best hotel in Scotland and Coorie Inn was on the editor’s choice list as best foodie hotel.
The award winners were announced on Tuesday night at the “Oscars of the UK hotel industry”.
Gordon’s is run by mother-and-son team Maria and Garry Watson.
The awards recognise Garry as the “creative force in the kitchen, serving up locally raised, fished and foraged ingredients which are an absolute treat”.
The Meiklour Arms, set in the Landsdowne Estate, is owned by the estate’s descendent, Sam Mercer Nairne and his Bordeaux-born wife Claire.
The awards say: “It’s blend of French style and charm with Scottish hospitality is clearly a winning combination, with estate-to-plate menus, charming rooms and cottages and attentive service.”
The Coorie Inn is described by the awards as a “warm and welcoming retreat”.
It adds: “‘Coorie’ means to nestle or snuggle – this restaurant with rooms is set in the conservation village of Muthill in the foothills of the Highlands.
“The outstanding food is a highlight – prepared by former Gleneagles chefs Phillip Skinazi and Andrew Mackay – with creative menus featuring local produce from Shetland mussels to Highland venison, all beautifully presented.”
The awards were presented by the renowned hotelier and television personality Alex Polizzi, who stars in Channel 5’s popular The Hotel Inspector.
She said: Running a hotel has never been easy and these are particularly challenging times for the industry.
“The Good Hotel Guide is a great network for smaller hotels and it is important for us to focus on how we need to adapt so that we can support each other effectively.”
