Mary Geaney Scoops Professional of the Year Award
Mary Geaney of Rossie Young People’s Trust landed the top accolade of the Professional of the Year Award at the 2018 ASB National Business Awards held at the Apex City Quay Hotel, Dundee on Friday 21 September.
The award, which recognises the qualities of a successful woman in a profession who makes a significant individual contribution to support her organisation to deliver superior performance saw Mary fight off stiff competition from no fewer than seven other top class candidates to take the prize.
230 guests gathered at the Apex City Quay Hotel to support 50 finalists across 12 categories.
Open to business and professional women across Scotland, the ASB National Business Awards showcase and celebrate the achievement of women working across all sectors. Awards are open to both members and non-members and are supported by sponsors Re:markable and Gallaghers Insurance.
ASB President, Wendy Maltman, said “I’m absolutely delighted to welcome such high calibre finalists to ‘Scotland’s coolest little city’ at such an exciting time in its history. Dundee is really buzzing at the moment and it serves as the perfect backdrop to honour these amazing business women.
“The Association of Scottish Businesswomen is so incredibly proud to play an integral role in shining a spotlight on the many successful and inspiring women in our business communities by facilitating the awards and giving the opportunity to praise and reward the most talented women for their achievements in business and in the community, recognising their hard work and dedication.
“The quantity and calibre of entries increases year on year making it extremely difficult for our panel of 13 independent judges to decide on the winners. The awards give us a fantastic opportunity to showcase the very best businesswomen in Scotland.”
Dinner guests also heard from speaker Liz Cameron OBE, Chief Executive and Director of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, who entertained with tales of her own experience of being nominated for awards, and encouraged everyone to stay true to their values.
ASB members visiting the city for the Awards Dinner had the opportunity to take part in a 59 Minute Design Challenge at the newly opened V&A Dundee, Scotland’s first dedicated design museum. Hosted by the V&A Design for Business team, the fun, fast-paced workshop introduced delegates to Design Thinking as a method to solve everyday business problems.
