Monifieth Complex Gets New Owner After Buyout
A Monifieth hotel and restaurant complex has been taken over by a new operator.
Rest & Recharge, run by American businessman Jordan King, has bought the former Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre site at Ethiebeaton Park.
The hotel and restaurant shut earlier this year and were put up for sale by owner Whitbread.
Refurbishment work is underway at the complex, which will be run as a 41-bedroom hotel and American roadhouse-style restaurant.
All existing hotel and restaurant staff have been offered a move to the new company.
Hotel bookings and restaurant reservations will be available when the site opens.
There are also plans to keep the soft play area and offer children’s parties.
The move puts to bed persistent rumours that the site is being used to house dozens of asylum seekers or migrants.
Mr King, who has previously been involved in restaurants in Edinburgh, said: “We are delighted to be taking over such a well-known hotel and restaurant in Monifieth.
“It’s a great location and we hope our new offering will attract both visitors looking for a great place to stay and local people who want a good-quality meal.
“We think there is real potential to offer something different in the Dundee area and build a great business.”
An opening date for the new hotel and restaurant has not been announced.
Several locals have claimed the former Premier Inn is being used to house asylum seekers or migrants.
Contractor Mears, which arranges accommodation for asylum seekers on behalf of the Home Office, has confirmed it is not using the hotel. It comes after Perth and Kinross Council hit out at social media speculation about an increase in asylum seekers in Perth.
