New Motorhome Holiday Opportunities created in Angus

Over £55,000 has been awarded to create opportunities to increase motorhome provisions in Angus.

Funded by Scottish Government’s Rural Community-Led Local Development Fund 2023/24, part of the Scottish Rural Development Programme, enhanced motorhome holiday opportunities are being enabled across the region.

Supported by Angus Rural Partnership and Angus Tourism Cooperative, in partnership with Angus Council, the funding has enabled the creation of a Motorhomes Opportunities Guide and five businesses have also received grant funding to support the creation of overnight stopover facilities for Motorhomes across Angus.

The five businesses; Pathhead Farm, Rewaco Trikes, Omachie Farm, Glenisla Hotel and Glamis Kirk, will receive funding of up to £7,500 each to support feasibility works to set up new overnight motorhome provisions. At least three new spaces could be created at each location, all allowing one-night stopovers to enhance the tourism offering in Angus.

To help local businesses and communities harness opportunities that the motorhome market brings, a Motorhomes Opportunities Guide has been created. It is hoped the new guide will help businesses and communities work together to create a joined-up experience that will attract visitors, increase visitor spend and maximise the regions wide range of attractions and activities.

Communities Convener, Councillor Mark McDonald said, “The number of motorhomes coming to Scotland and Angus in recent years is continually rising, and Angus Council are committed to the continuous development of diverse, exciting, and high-quality tourism products. This funding creates an exciting opportunity to support Angus’s tourism offering and contributes positively to communities across the region.

“I urge any tourism business, individual, or community group that wishes to find out how they too can maximise on this ever-growing market, to read our newly published Motorhome Opportunities Guide, and to reach out to our Invest in Angus team if they have any questions.”

Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon said: “This is great example of Community Led Local Development (CLLD) in action.  Angus has so much to offer visitors and this additional provision for motorhomes and campervans is very much welcome. The free to access Motorhome Opportunities Guide will help local businesses to build on the opportunities that the motorhome tourism sector can bring and further cement Angus as the place to visit.

“Angus Rural Partnership is ideally positioned to support communities within Angus to maximise community wealth building opportunities such as this and utilise CLLD funding to address priorities such as measures to address child poverty, net zero and wider community capacity building.”

Scott Petrie, Chief Executive Officer at Angus Rural Partnership said, “We were delighted to be able to support increasing motorhome provisions in Angus. Community-Led Local Development gives local businesses and communities the ability to deliver new approaches specific to their own economic needs and we believe this opportunity will be a catalyst to a more prosperous and sustainable tourism sector in Angus.”
