New Restrictions Announced for Scotland

In a statement to the Scottish Parliament the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon introduced a number of additional restrictions the Scottish Government believes are now necessary in order to reduce COVID rates as we approach the winter months and amidst a recent rise in Covid cases.

These restrictions include:

  • A strict nationwide curfew for pubs, bars and restaurants – from Friday 25th September, pubs, bars and restaurants will be required to close at 10pm;
  • From tomorrow (23 September) visiting other households indoors will not be permitted across the whole of Scotland. An extension to the rules currently in place for 6 council areas in the West of Scotland; and
  • Advising against car sharing with people outside your own household.

The First Minister also underlined existing Scottish Government advice that everyone who can work from home, should work from home.

The Scottish Government has also announced financial support of £500 for those on low incomes who are required to self-isolate.

Exemptions on the new household regulations coming into force tomorrow include the following:

  • People living alone, or alone with children who form extended households; and
  • Also exempt will be couples who are in non-cohabiting relationships, as well as informal childcare and for trades people carrying out work.

These restrictions will be reviewed within three weeks and further guidance will made available where necessary.
