Peacocks Set to Close Store in Arbroath
The Arbroath branch of the popular clothes store Peacocks in the town’s Abbeygate Centre is to close.
It was announced early in October that more than 50 Peacocks stores nationwide, including Forfar, are to be closed and 600 jobs axed by the company behind Peacocks and Edinburgh Woollen Mill.
“Like every retailer we have found the past seven months extremely difficult”, said Edinburgh Woollen Mill chief executive Steve Simpson.
The Arbroath branch of Peacocks has a large closing down sale sign in the window and joins the other Abbeygate stores that have already closed, such as Brighthouse, Tui Travel Agents, and the Subway Sandwich Bar.
Tui Travel Agent has a sign in the window stating that it is temporary closed due to the current Covid crisis, and Subway has closed its takeaway business in the Abbeygate as it is due to open a new sit-in cafe on the High Street.
