Carnoustie Golf Links donate over £500k through Community Benefits Programme

At its annual Community Benefits Awards Evening on Monday 21st October, Carnoustie Golf Links proudly announced donations of over £116,000 to support local community groups and individuals.

Further celebrations were in order on the evening as the programme marked its 10th anniversary. This latest round of contributions takes Carnoustie Golf Links’ Community Benefits total donations to more than £500,000 since the inception of the support programme in 2014 and further cementing its commitment to the area.

Through these initiatives, Carnoustie Golf Links has been able to assist a wide range of organisations and individuals across the Carnoustie area. The donations support local projects that promote education, health, wellbeing, and sports development, reflecting the Links’ ongoing dedication to creating a lasting positive impact in the local community.

Michael Wells, Chief Executive of Carnoustie Golf Links, said: “I am extremely proud that the continued success of Carnoustie Golf Links to attract visitors from all over the world has enabled us to award over £500,000 directly to the people and organisations who need it the most, right here in our local community.”

The donations were awarded to various groups and causes dedicated to improving community life. By partnering with local stakeholders, Carnoustie Golf Links ensures that its contributions are used to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people and communities it serves.

On the evening, Councillor David Cheape said: “This latest round of financial awards will provide a lasting benefit to many of the successful applicants and we are happy to support them in their current endeavours and wish them continued success.”

In addition to its direct financial donations to local community groups and individuals, Carnoustie Golf Links runs a variety of charitable initiatives that reflect the organisation’s commitment to promoting positive social impact and sustainability across the region.

Junior Golf Development

Carnoustie Golf Links places a strong focus on encouraging the next generation of golfers. By providing free access to golfing facilities for almost 400 local juniors and supporting youth golf programmes, Carnoustie helps nurture young talent, promotes healthy lifestyles, and develops the skills of future golfers. These efforts include weekly coaching sessions, competitions, and partnerships with local schools to make golf more accessible to children and young people.

Environmental and Sustainability Projects

As part of its long-term sustainability vision, Carnoustie Golf Links actively supports environmental projects designed to protect and enhance the natural beauty of the area. These initiatives focus on preserving the local ecosystem, supporting biodiversity, and implementing eco-friendly practices across the Links. Community members are regularly invited to get involved in these projects through educational workshops and environmental awareness campaigns, such as its recent BioBlitz event.

Health and Wellbeing Programmes

Carnoustie Golf Links recognises the importance of physical and mental wellbeing. It works closely with local health organisations to support initiatives that encourage physical activity, mental health awareness, and overall wellbeing. This includes Carnoustie Golf Links annual Health and Wellbeing Open Day.

Carnoustie Golf Memories

Carnoustie Golf Links assists local Dementia and Alzheimer’s support group – Carnoustie Golf Memories – by offering venue spaces and access to the facilities, such as the Indoor Golf Performance Centre, to provide a space for users to enjoy the game that they love so much in a safe and comfortable environment.

Educational Outreach

Through collaborations with local schools and educational organisations, Carnoustie Golf Links offers students the chance to learn about the game of golf aimed at fostering a love for learning the game inspiring the younger generations. This led to Carnoustie’s Golf Development Team winning the School to Club Link of the Year Award in 2023.

Each of these initiatives underscores Carnoustie Golf Links’ mission to not only provide world-leading golfing experiences but also to contribute to the social and environmental wellbeing of the region. Through these charitable efforts, Carnoustie Golf Links continues to play an active and meaningful role in shaping a brighter future for the local community.
