Steps to Inspiring Young People with Additional Support Needs
90% of young people with additional support needs want to work. However, by the time they are 26 young people with a disability are four times as likely to be unemployed as their non-disabled peers.
The current climate is going to be particularly difficult for young people who have never entered the labour market as they are entering during a recession. This will be even more challenging for young people with additional support needs.
It is crucial that we equip young people with additional support needs with the knowledge, experience and confidence to be able to enter the labour market now more than ever.
Developing the Young Workforce has partnered with disability experts ENABLE Scotland to deliver an engaging new free webinar for employers to explore the steps to inspiring young people with additional support needs.
This interactive half day webinar will provide employers with the tools to inform and inspire young people with additional needs while they are still at school and provide practical guidance on supporting these young people into employment.
Hilary Roberts, DYW Dundee and Angus Manager said, “This webinar was originally developed by ENABLE Scotland and our colleagues in DYW Edinburgh, Mid Lothian and East Lothian. I am delighted that we can now offer it to our local businesses and we hope that people do take up this offer to help young people with additional needs to become valuable members of the workforce.”
