The fast-growing Welsh water firm which has saved Forfar’s iconic Strathmore brand
The new owner of Strathmore Water has promised a bright future for its ‘professional and passionate’ Forfar workforce.
Welsh spring water company Ty Nant has been confirmed as the new owner of the West High Street business.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, secures the future of more than 20 Angus jobs.
It also ends fears the famous name would disappear after Irn Bru maker AG Barr announced plans in March to axe Strathmore from its portfolio.
And the rapidly-growing Welsh firm is pledging future investment in the iconic Angus brand.
Ty Nant chairman and director Raminder Sidhu said: “This is a brand with a deep legacy and a loyal following.
“We are honoured to be entrusted with its next chapter.”
He added: “At the heart of Strathmore’s success is the incredible team in Forfar.
“Their professionalism, passion and care are a true testament to the strength of the brand and the business.
“We’re proud to welcome them into the Ty Nant family and excited to invest further in their future.”
Ty Nant – house by the stream in Welsh – is based in the hamlet of Bethania, in West Wales.
The aquifer from which it draws its water was discovered in 1976 and the brand was officially launched 13 years later.
It immediately established award-winning credentials with a distinctive cobalt blue glass bottle which remains a hallmark of the brand.
Continued growth has included the acquisition of other premium bottled water brands in North Wales and Wiltshire.
It is also the owner of the Pentland Still distillery in Midlothian, which produces the high-quality King’s Hill Gin.
Ty Nant says the Angus move will further expand its operational scale and geographic footprint.
The company will continue to operate Strathmore as a distinctly Scottish brand.
It recently featured in the Sunday Times 100 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the UK.
Meanwhile, AG Barr said it hopes to see revenue rise by 3% to around £228 million for the first half of this year.
The sale of Strathmore was confirmed in the latest quarterly update by the Funkin, Boost and Rubicon maker.
