The Great Angus Taste-Off!

After a week of tastings, menus featuring locally sourced ingredients, foodie events and farm visits, the Taste of Angus Festival 2018 came to an end on Sunday March 25 with a highly successful Pizza Afternoon at The Roastery in Arbroath.

“Over 250 people came along to our afternoon celebrating the produce of Angus,” said Kathryn Baker of Sacred Grounds Coffee Company, which is based in Arbroath.
“There was a real buzz at The Roastery as our many visitors tucked into goodies from Angus Oven, Muckle Backit Pizza Oven, Artisana Gourmet Brownies, 71 Brewing and Sacred Grounds,” continued Kathryn. “In fact, it was such a success, we all sold out of everything!

“This event was an excellent opportunity to highlight the incredible produce available on our doorstep but it was also a perfect example of what can be achieved when artisan food and drink companies work together. We always love being part of the Taste of Angus Festival.”

There were several successful drinks events, too, including a distillery tour at Ogilvy Spirits and several tasting afternoons at Gin Bothy. “It was wonderful to see the look of surprise on our visitors’ faces when they came into our newly-opened Bothy Tasting Room,” said Kim Cameron of Gin Bothy. “The Taste of Angus Festival definitely helped us spread the word about what’s happening at Gin Bothy.”

Other events included a ghost walk where the participants recovered from their eerie encounters with a three course meal of local delicacies, a walk and barbeque in the grounds of Hospitalfield House and children’s pie making masterclasses. “40 children aged from two to 13 came along to our pie making masterclasses,” revealed Hayley Wilkes from WeeCOOK. “They all loved making their pies and taking them home with them, still hot from the oven.”

WeeCOOK also hosted a Pie and Brew Evening during the Taste of Angus Festival. “This was a great success and was a chance for WeeCOOK and our collaborators – Redcastle Brewery and Gintensify – to share stories and tell everyone about our businesses and our local suppliers. And, of course, everyone had a great time!”
