Angus is a great place to live and is situated a short drive from the city of Dundee. With so many towns and villages to live in, Angus offers a tranquil place to stay. With beautiful countryside, rugged coastline and plenty of things to see and do, you’ll never want to leave.

Population

Angus Population

Angus has a population of approximately 110,000 people.  The main centres of population and commerce are the seven towns of Arbroath, Forfar, Montrose, Carnoustie, Brechin, Monifieth and Kirriemuir.  These towns are complemented by thriving rural communities and smaller settlements. Levels of employment and self-employment are higher in Angus than the national average, and levels of unemployment are lower, especially amongst the female population.

Education

School

There are 51 primary schools and 8 secondary schools in Angus. The schools follow the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) for children aged 3 to 18. The aim of the CfE is for children to become responsible citizens; confident individuals; successful learners and effective contributors. The Angus Annual Education Report is published every September and gives an insight into attainment levels.

Dundee and Angus College offer a variety of courses and training opportunities.

University of Dundee and University of Abertay Dundee offer a wide range of skill based courses across many disciplines.

Angus is also a short distance from St Andrews University, Aberdeen University and Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.

Healthcare

Residents have access to good health care facilities with local health centres in each town, as well as two minor injuries and illness units in Arbroath and Forfar. Arbroath infirmary is home to the community maternity unit. Opticians, dentists and pharmacies are available throughout the county.

Houses

House prices in Angus are below the national average. In February 2022, the average house price in Angus was 11% below the Scottish average – £161,616 compared to £180,822 (Source: HM Land Registry, UK House Price Index Scotland).

In addition to this, Council Tax in Angus is also historically lower than in its neighbouring local authority areas, with the charges for a Band D property currently £1,242.14,  below the national average of £1,347.
