Event Description

Join us for an information session on Museums Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief. MGETR allows museums and exhibitors to recoup expenses on exhibitions, based on their status. Unfortunately, it has a very poor uptake in Scottish museums, and it is thought many organisations are missing out on money they are entitled to.

We are being joined by Mo Suleman who is a chartered certified accountant and MGETR specialist with extensive experience helping museums and cultural organisations identify and maximise Museums & Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief (MGETR).

Mo was formerly Director of Resources at Derby Museums, which was one of the first museums in the country to successfully access MGETR when the scheme was introduced. Since leaving Derby Museums in 2022, he has worked with museums across the UK, helping them review their claims and identify significant amounts of previously unclaimed relief. To date, he has helped museums identify more than £5 million of additional MGETR claims.

He is also Treasurer of the Museums Association and brings a practical combination of museum-sector experience, financial expertise and hands-on knowledge of MGETR.

In this session, Mo will look at how MGETR works in practice and how to put a claim together and, why museums, especially in Scotland, may be under-claiming, how organisations can build MGETR into their exhibition planning and financial processes to make sure they receive the relief they are entitled to.

These events are open to all.
