Building the Skills Powering Scotland’s Offshore Wind Future
Montrose is rapidly establishing itself as a national hub for Scotland’s offshore wind industry. At the heart of this growth is Montrose Port, which is undergoing a major, multi‑phase £115 million redevelopment to create a world‑class Operations and Maintenance superhub.
Already the operational base for Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm, Seagreen, Montrose Port is also developing significant new infrastructure to support the Inch Cape offshore wind project.
As further offshore wind developments come forward, this scale of investment presents a once‑in‑a‑generation opportunity – to ensure people across Angus have the skills, experience and qualifications needed to secure high‑value, long‑term jobs in the green energy economy.
The Montrose Port Skills Academy has been created to meet this opportunity head‑on. It will be the first training facility of its kind in Scotland to be located within a live offshore wind operations port, allowing learners to train in the same environment where they will go on to work.
This close integration between industry and education ensures training is:
- Practical and industry‑relevant
- Aligned directly with employer needs
- Designed to support real career pathways into offshore wind
From new entrants to experienced workers looking to upskill, the Academy will play a vital role in building a future‑ready workforce for Scotland’s offshore wind sector.
