New fully accessible escape pod launches at Forbes of Kingennie

A new accessible escape pod, including a private hot tub with lift, has opened for bookings at Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort, near Dundee.

The luxurious Solas Retreat accommodation is fully accessible for a wheelchair and has a hoist system throughout the living area, bedroom and wet room.

Owned by the Forbes family for the past 30 years, Forbes of Kingennie offers a range of waterside and woodland lodges, eco-lodges and cosy shepherd’s huts with hot tubs, overlooking fishing pools.

The resort also has a 9-hole golf course, 18-hole putting green, cold water swimming pond, sauna, restaurant and bar for visitors.

Guests who book the new pod can enjoy relaxing in the secluded hot tub, with large bi-fold doors which open on to decking in the lodge’s private garden and tranquil views over the ponds.

The well-equipped kitchen and sitting area includes a pull-down double bed and an electric mobility recliner, with an adjustable height table for coffee and dining.

The bedroom has a Profiling Care hospital-style bed with individually controlled split mattress platforms, plus a TV for relaxed mornings or evenings.

The large accessible bathroom features a comfort height toilet, support and grab rails, as well as a wet room shower with a freestanding seat.

Named after the Gaelic for joy and comfort, the Solas Retreat is dog-friendly and also includes a free accessible parking space, under a covered carport.

Libby Sutherland, partner at Forbes of Kingennie, said the pod had been carefully designed to ensure a stress-free, peaceful holiday.

“We are thrilled to be launching our fully accessible escape pod and we have invested in specialist equipment to help ensure every guest enjoys a luxurious and relaxing break,” she said. “The Solas Retreat pod has a different layout to our other accommodation, with space for a wheelchair, a wet room and hoists which can be used in each room if needed.”

The hot tubs are sure to be a hit with visitors to the resort, said Libby.

“We know our hot tubs, with views over the countryside and lochans, are a big draw for guests. As its name suggests, we want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy relaxing outside, whether that’s under the stars or whiling away an afternoon, so we have also installed an automatic spa lift next to the hot tub.

“The team at Forbes of Kingennie are looking forward to welcoming guests who are keen to try out our new escape pod – and we are offering a 15% discount for the first month as an extra incentive to book.”

Last year, Forbes of Kingennie launched its one-of-a-kind wild swimming and sauna experience.

Visitors can swim outdoors in a spring water-fed, heart-shaped lochan surrounded by rolling countryside, then cosy up in a wood-fired sauna – run by Fife-based Wild Scottish Sauna – which has a large window offering stunning views of the water and the hills beyond.

The resort has The Scullery restaurant and Cairn O’Mount bar on site, providing breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Visitors can also enjoy the on-site fishing pontoon with ramp access, where guests can enjoy fly fishing or book in for a lesson with one of Forbes of Kingennie’s fishing experts.

Forbes of Kingennie Countryside Resort is located in a prime rural location close to Broughty Ferry, just 15 minutes from Dundee and with easy access from Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
