The Data Protection and Digital Information (DPDI) Bill was first introduced to Parliament in 2022. It is the first major piece of data protection legislation since the UK left the EU, but the legislative approval process was paused to enable collaboration and input from business leaders and data experts.

The latest version of the bill, presented to Parliament in March 2024, is intended to establish a UK data protection regime that works for individuals and organisations while maintaining high standards of data protection.
