Montrose gaming café completes move to new town centre premises
A thriving Montrose gaming café has launched its new premises in a town centre move it hopes will open doors to a range of groups.
Redcap Games was set up three years ago in a former High Street café by Luke Brown and partner Stacey Walker.
Since then, it’s been a haven for local gamers and a growing number of local groups.
They can enjoy hit games such as Warhammer, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Dungeons and Dragons.
The switch to the former SES Mobility store at 116 High Street has opened up new opportunities for the business.
Luke said:
“We started a few years ago and it’s grown to the point where we just didn’t have enough room.
“It’s taken us a while to get things going here but we’re really excited to be open.
“This is phase one and we’ve now got the café, kitchen and shop on the ground floor.”
“We had to close our old store for around six weeks because of the amount of work involved.
But we were doing things online to try and generate as much as we could.”
Future plans include expanding into other areas of the unit to create more meeting and gaming space, as well as sensory space for customers with ADHD and anxiety issues.
Guests at the opening of the new premises included players from Angus Wargames Club, Dundee Gaming Guild and Auchenblae Gaming Club.
Luke added:
“There has also been interest from groups such as Andy’s Man Club, Montrose Community Council, Our Montrose and Enable.
“They are excited to use our premises as a meeting place.”
Redcap also runs after-school gaming clubs in six schools throughout Angus and neighbouring Aberdeenshire.
And several of its volunteers have progressed into paid roles.
